Estonian Chemical Industry Association<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Estonian Chemical Industry Association (ECIA), is a non-profit association, founded on the 16th of September 1991, uniting chemical industry companies in order to solve the problems that had arisen with the restoration of independence and the introduction of our local currency. At present, ECIA has 55 members.<\/p>\n

The main objective of the ECIA is:<\/p>\n

Development of the Estonian chemical industry, increasing efficiency, competitiveness and safety.<\/p>\n

And the tools are:<\/p>\n

Legislation, lobbying, training and mediation of the outside world.<\/p>\n

Consumer Chemicals and Cosmetics Sector Group<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sector group includes the members of the Association who are engaged in the production and sale of consumer chemicals and cosmetics:<\/p>\n

AS Orto, AS Estko, AS Chemi-Pharm, O\u00dc Flora Kaubandus, Henkel Balti O\u00dc, O\u00dc Kemitek, Joik O\u00dc, O\u00dc Nurme Looduskosmeetika, L\u2019Oreal Poland and Baltic Hub, Unilever Eesti AS, Mayeri Industries AS, O\u00dc Eurobio Lab, Ontic O\u00dc, O\u00dc Turbliss, Perfect Cosmetics O\u00dc and Signe Seebid O\u00dc.<\/p>\n

The sector group deals with emerging common problems both in Estonia and in areas arising from European Union legislation, such as cosmetics and natural cosmetics, detergents, biocides, REACH and CLP in consumer chemistry, and packaging and plastics.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Estonian Environmental Management Association (ESMA)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A non-profit organization established on 21 April 2003 on the basis of voluntary membership, which brings together companies, organizations and individuals to promote business-related environmental activities and represents the interests of its members in addressing environmental issues.<\/p>\n

The association acts as an intermediary between businesses and the state (e.g. participation in legislation) as well as businesses and civil society (e.g. relations with environmental organizations) and represents the interests of its members in environmental matters.<\/p>\n

Responsible Care<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Responsible Care is a chemical industry initiative launched in Canada in 1984, where companies decided to work together to continuously improve the health, safety and environmental performance of products and processes so that they can contribute to the sustainable development of both the local area and society as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2002, the Estonian Chemical Industry  Association (ECIA) and its 6 member companies Including ORTO Ltd. , joined the Responsible Care initiative<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is for the members of the Estonian Chemical Industry Association to behave in accordance with the unspecified good practices even if the company is not directly obliged to do so. It is the company\u2019s care and responsibility for the effects of its products and activities, even when the product has left the company\u2019s grounds. Because the company cares, it also takes responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Principles of the Responsible Care program:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. We consider taking care of human health and safety, protecting the environment, limiting emissions and pollution to be an important and integral part of the company\u2019s business process.<\/li>
  2. We encourage and instruct the company\u2019s staff to act responsibly in the field of environmental protection and occupational safety.<\/li>
  3. We are constantly working towards using the raw materials and energy sustainably and reducing emissions and waste.<\/li>
  4. We are aware of and reduce the environmental and occupational safety risks of our operations.<\/li>
  5. When implementing a new process or product, we find out their impact on the environment and human health.<\/li>
  6. We inform the authorities about the company\u2019s activities and its effects on the environment and human health.<\/li>
  7. We inform the local population and other interested parties about our production activities and products and their possible effects on the environment.<\/li>
  8. We instruct customers on the safe handling of our products and waste disposal.<\/li>
  9. We expect and encourage our partners to follow the same principles.<\/li>
  10. In case of technology transfer, we will explain to the host company the handling conditions necessary to protect the environment and human health.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
